Perhaps, I am not the best physical fighter, but I have tried to practice more recently. It's important to keep good sword skills when fighting monsters.
[ And that reminded him, and his entire demeanor became excited. ]
Are there monsters where you came from?
[ What did they look like? What were their stats? ]
[ That's not what he meant, but. Note to self, be more overt when flirting! ]
Monsters? Some, but they're mostly ghosts. We have several ranks. My husband, for example, is one of the four Calamities, a ghost who can destroy nations in a night. He's the Crimson Rain Sought Flower. I wouldn't call him a monster ... that term is usually reserved for low-level ghosts that twist themselves into grief or rage-induced horrors.
[ Brimming with praise, he keeps it in by sipping his tea again. Shen Qingqiu doesn't want to hear Xie Lian waxing lyrical about another man, surely! ]
Do you have anyone special waiting for you back home?
[ Gently nudging Shen Qingqiu toward the point, he feels a little bad. He imagined an earthly cultivator would have some experience but now Xie Lian suspects he is plucking a rose, or something to that effect. ]
Shang Qinghua mentioned his own lover, a Mobei-Jun.
[ To think that the traitor would end up with the king of the north! Why was he not suprised? He was sure there were specific fans who were into that sort of thing, he was sure he had seen some fanfics for that, even though Shang Qinghua originally had such a bit part and was destined to die. ]
That is a matter I am not familiar with… it would seem we have some time between us in what we last remember…
This one has no such lovers or any suitors.
[ Mostly because he was stupid and couldn’t see the chances sitting all around him. ]
[ He eats some cake, wondering what to ask next. It shouldn't be an interrogation but he isn't used to taking anyone out on dates, not even his own husband. ]
[ Quite a lot, but he wasn't sure where to start. What sort of cultuvation did you do? With no monsters did you fight ghosts? What sort of person is your husband? He sounds crazy strong so there's a story there! Give him deets! ]
It's quite normal, I suppose? Sometimes people ascend to become Heavenly Officials, also known as gods, and they can be martial or civil. Their ascension can be for a lot of reasons, then they typically live in a palace in Heaven, but if you run out of believers or followers, you can become obsolete and die. On the opposite end of the spectrum are ghosts who can become equally as powerful but those are rare and the unhappy dead are numerous enough to make up entire cities, sometimes.
[ Normal my ass! “Sometimes people ascend to become Heavenly Officials”! How can something be said so casually as if it were the same as “some people go to Beijing University”!? ]
How does one ascend? In the world this master is from ascension is almost impossible, taking decades if not centuries of cultivation to even attempt to reach such a chance to try.
I have ascended three times; I was banished twice, which I would rather not go into. The first ascension was due to my martial prowess, second was after a difficult fight, and the third time I assume was because I cultivated intensely for eight-hundred years. No alcohol, a life of celibacy.
A civil god I know, Ling Wen, ascended because she was a great thinker and became the most organised Heavenly Official in the realm, to the point where it nearly fell to ruin when she left.
[ Sipping his tea. ]
There are many reasons, although martial prowess is the most common.
[ WHY ARE THEY GIVING OUT ASCENSION LIKE CANDY!? What sort of BS Elite High School mechanics is this!? ]
That really is quite different. Eight hundred years is almost beyond what I can imagine.
[ As Shen Qingqiu. Proud Immortal Demon's Way was a low fantasy setting, even Binghe, the golden protagonist didn't live for more than a few hundred years. ]
[ Was there really nothing interesting you think might be fun to share? Being someone terrible at holding a conversation Shen Qingqiu was starting to feel awkward. ]
I did not mean this as an interrogation. Simply... it's a unique opportunity to learn of another world and what the differences might be.
I've spent more time amongst mortals than anyone else, I'm afraid there isn't much to talk about there. [ Hmmm ... ] For those eight-hundred years I collected and sold scrap. It was a peaceful life.
[ Xie Lian wilts again, supposing hearing that someone collected rubbish is the least attravtive thing he could have possibly admitted. He isn't picking up on any genuine interest from the other man and his hopes sink to the floor.
He pushes his cake around his plate in the awkward silence that ensues before he can't stand the vibe anymore; he sets his fork down and gets up. Politely bows. ]
I ought to be going, I have some calligraphy lessons to finish. Thank you for meeting with me today, Master Shen. I wish you a good afternoon.

[ A little of his earlier enthusiasm has returned as he sips his tea. ]

Unless it was a literacy issue....
Well, no, he supposed it could be quite complicated. He got a calligraphy and art cheat after all. ]
Yes, all the arts this master can do, calligraphy, painting, music, poetry...
[ He lifted his fan proudly. ]
All of them quite enjoyed.

Interesting, so a world with only levels of ghosts but no monsters.
[ He wanted to read it!!!
Though, that description... he really did need to hug these thighs of this prince and their ghost king husband!!! ]
Your husband sounds quite acomplished.

NOPE! Not thinking about that!
But even then, hebhad self destruction and run away... sure the plan was to return to his sect somehow.... Maybe. ]
Before arriving here were some complications... so I don't have anyone waiting for me. My diciples are of an age to be self sufficient.

If it's alright... could we meet again?
[ You could have told him more about your husband, gushing is fine. You seem like someone who's cute when gushing about stuff they like! ]

Please, stay and enjoy the tea.
